History
Samuel K. Kelso began a plastering contracting business in 1910
in Ardmore; it grew into S.K. Kelso Sons, Inc. when his sons Dave
and J. Boyd joined the business. S.K. Kelso Sons, Inc. were contracting
plasters specializing in interior plastering and exterior stucco.
In
1958 Dave and Boyd started the John E. Boyd Construction as general
contractors specializing in commercial and light industrial construction.
They took pride in the fact that they could decipher very difficult
problems. An example is the Meridian Bank Building in West Chester
which was originally two old buildings; a former inn and stage coach
stop. The company converted it into one building in an elegant 18th
century style using handmade bricks and other period architectural
touches.
In 1969, Dave and Boyd created the Boyd-Mulford Construction Co.
and for the next 35 years, we operated as a union construction company
with major clients such as Bell of Pennsylvania and AT&T.
John Kelso, Dave's son and Doug Reith have been with the Kelso Companies
for over 25 years as Foremen and Project Managers. Both will work to continue the Kelso
company traditions and to carry on the Kelso family heritage.
Just as our predecessors John E. Boyd Construction and Boyd-Mulford Construction,
Kelso General Construction embodies the motto adopted long ago for the parent company,
S.K. Kelso Sons, Inc.
That motto is "Quality with Service" and it describes the hands-on, 100% effort clients receive.
